Dyed Easter Eggs Recipe
- 12 white eggs
- 2 teaspoons distilled white vinegar
- About 40 drops (1/2 teaspoon) food coloring
- Crayons (preferably clear or white ones) or stickers, for decorating (optional)
- Place a rack over a paper-towel-lined baking sheet; set aside.
- Place eggs in a single layer in a large saucepan with a tightfitting lid.
- Add enough water to cover the eggs by 1 to 2 inches.
- Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove eggs to the rack and let sit until cool enough to handle.
- Pour 1 cup water into a small, nonreactive bowl or mug.
- Add vinegar and food coloring and stir to combine.
- For a darker color, add a few more drops of food coloring.
- Repeat for additional colors.
- If desired, decorate cooled eggs with crayons or stickers.
- Using a spoon, dip each egg into the dye, turning to coat evenly.
- Remove to the rack to dry.
