Apple Strusel Bars
- 1/2 cup Melted Butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 Apples peeled and sliced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cold, diced butter
- 1 salted caramel topping *store bought*
- Preheat oven to 300F.
- Then lay aluminum foil down on a 8inch pan, with the foil overlapping the sides.
- Mix the liquid ingredients from the shortbread in a bowl together, then add in the flour and incorporate well.
- Pat out on the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- When the shortbread is finished cooking, turn the oven up to 350F and begin the apple filling.
- Stir all of the apple mixture together then lay out on the shortbread crust.
- Now make the strusel by mixing all the ingredients together and cutting the butter into it with your hands or a pastry cutter.
- Top the apples with the strusel and then bake for 30-35 minutes.
- When finished let it cool on the counter for 20minutes before placing in the fridge to cool for 2 hours.
- When cooled, use the foil to pull the bars from the pan.
- Then cut in squares.
- Top with the caramel topping and serve.
