Apple Strusel Bars

  1. Preheat oven to 300F.
  2. Then lay aluminum foil down on a 8inch pan, with the foil overlapping the sides.
  3. Mix the liquid ingredients from the shortbread in a bowl together, then add in the flour and incorporate well.
  4. Pat out on the bottom of the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes.
  6. When the shortbread is finished cooking, turn the oven up to 350F and begin the apple filling.
  7. Stir all of the apple mixture together then lay out on the shortbread crust.
  8. Now make the strusel by mixing all the ingredients together and cutting the butter into it with your hands or a pastry cutter.
  9. Top the apples with the strusel and then bake for 30-35 minutes.
  10. When finished let it cool on the counter for 20minutes before placing in the fridge to cool for 2 hours.
  11. When cooled, use the foil to pull the bars from the pan.
  12. Then cut in squares.
  13. Top with the caramel topping and serve.
