Macadamia Shortbread Hearts Recipe

  1. Blend flour, sugar, lemon peel and salt in food processor.
  2. Add in butter and process till coarse meal forms, using on/off turns.
  3. Add in egg and vanilla and process till just blended.
  4. Transfer to bowl.
  5. Gently fold in nuts.
  6. Chill at least 2 hrs.
  7. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  8. Lightly butter baking sheet (or possibly use parchment paper).
  9. Let dough soften 10 min.
  10. Roll out on floured pastry cloth 1/4 inch thick.
  11. Cut into 2 1/2 to 3 inch hearts.
  12. Chill cookies on cookie sheet 15 min before baking.
  13. Bake till edges begin to turn golden, about 18 min.
  14. Cold on rack.
  15. Makes 3 to 4 dozen.
