Red Wine Barbecue Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in heavy medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic, cumin, and chipotle chile powder; stir 1 minute.
  3. Add wine and simmer 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, and liquid smoke; simmer 2 minutes longer.
  5. (Can be prepared 2 days ahead.
  6. Cover and refrigerate.)
  7. *Available in the spice section of most supermarkets.
  8. **A smoke-flavored liquid seasoning available at specialty foods stores and many supermarkets.
