Spicy Asian Lettuce Wraps

  1. With a paring knife, remove the core from the bottom side of the lettuce.
  2. Peel away the outer layer of lettuce and discard.
  3. Gently peel away the layers of lettuce, being careful not to tear them.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Heat oil in a large saute pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Add the turkey, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned.
  7. Add the onions and cook until soft, 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add the garlic, ginger, jalapeno, and carrots.
  9. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  10. Mix in the Chinese five spice, red pepper flakes, and soy sauce.
  11. Cook until soy sauce has been absorbed, about 2 minutes.
  12. Season with salt and pepper.
  13. Scoop meat mixture into the lettuce cups, doubling up lettuce cups if they are too thin.
  14. Garnish with green onions, cilantro leaves, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
  15. Serves 4-6.
