Dutch Appelflappen
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
- 2-1/2 cup flour
- 1 dash cinnamon
- 1 dash nutmeg
- 1-1/4 cup sweet cider
- flat beer
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 6 tart apples, cored, peeled, each cut into 8 wedges
- Icing sugar
- Lemon quarters
- Preheat deep fryer to 325F.
- Mix flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Combine with cider or beer and salt to make a smooth batter.
- Let batter sit for 15 minutes at room temperature.
- Dip apple wedges in batter and fry, a few at a time, until light golden.
- Drain fritters on paper towels in a warm oven, sprinkle with sugar and remove to a warmed dish.
- Serve with lemon quarters.
- Serves 4.
