Black Forest Stuffed French Toast Recipe

  1. Make Black Forest sauce first: in a saucepan, heat cherries & juice.
  2. Stir in sugar & vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix water & cornstarch.
  4. Stir into cherries, simmering till thickened, stirring frequently.
  5. Stir in nutmeg.
  6. Keep hot.
  7. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese till smooth.
  8. Stir in shaved chocolate or possibly miniature chips.
  9. Set aside.
  10. In a large bowl, beat Large eggs, lowfat milk, sugar, vanilla & optional salt.
  11. Slice French bread into 12 slices, each 1 to 11/2 inches thick.
  12. Then slice a pocket into the middle of each slice.
  13. Fill each pocket with 1/2 to 1 Tbsp.
  14. cream cheese mix.
  15. Dip bread slices into egg batter on both sides.
  16. Place on a warm griddle and brown.
  17. Turn and brown the other side (keep slices in a hot oven, if necessary, while finishing all 12 slices).
  18. To serve, place two slices on each plate and top with about 3/4 c. hot Black Forest sauce.
  19. Enjoy!
  20. Makes 6 servings.
