Onion buns
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 1/2 cup Luke warm water
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- 1 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup Luke warm milk
- 2 cup onion
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- 1 poppy seeds on top if desired
- saute onion on low to med heat.
- with 2 tablespoons butter until caramelized, 15-20 min and set aside
- stir together luke warm water, sugar, salt and yeast let it "bloom" (let yeast work, it will become a bit foamy, and be very fragrant)
- wait about 5 mins
- add egg, flour, and milk and 2 tablespoons of melted butter
- mix together, stir for 3 mins
- add in onions
- stir in a additional 1 1/2 - 2 cups of flour to make dough stiff
- place dough on well floured surface
- lightly knead, until no longer sticky, may need a bit more flour
- divide into 8 parts
- shape into flat buns; place on greased cookie sheet
- cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until very light or doubled in size 45-60 mins
- bake at 375 for 12-15 mins or until golden brown
