Pies in a Jar

  1. TO PREPARE
  2. Wash and dry jars before using.
  3. Roll out pie dough
  4. slightly thinner than you would for a regular pie.
  5. Cut into pieces and press into jars three-fourths of
  6. the way up the sides of the jar.
  7. Spoon in pie filling
  8. until the jar is three-fourths full.
  9. Use a canning jar
  10. lid as a template for the diameter of the top crust.
  11. Make decorative cut-outs using tiny cookie cutters,
  12. if desired.
  13. Place the dough circles over jars, gently
  14. pressing dough in the center and on the sides.
  15. Add
  16. cut-out dough pieces.
  17. Sprinkle with sanding sugar if
  18. desired.
  19. Pies may be frozen with lids on for later use.
  20. FOR FRESH BAKING
  21. Place jars on baking sheet and bake at 375F for 45
  22. minutes.
  23. Cover jars loosely with aluminum foil if
  24. the tops brown too quickly.
  25. You want to be sure the
  26. bottom crust bakes thoroughly.
  27. Allow jars to cool to
  28. the touch before serving.
  29. TO BAKE FROM FROZEN
  30. Place frozen jars on baking sheet.
  31. Remove lids.
  32. Bake
  33. at 350F for 1 hour.
  34. Allow jars to cool to the touch
  35. before serving.
