Mimi's Baked Ziti
- 1 pound pasta, ziti
- 1 pound ground beef
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 2 ounces parmesan, parmigiano-reggiano cheese, grated
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese shredded
- 52 ounces pasta sauce
- 1 medium sweet red bell peppers finely chopped
- 1 medium green bell peppers finely chopped
- 1 medium onions finely chopped
- 4 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons parsley flakes
- Preheat oven at 350F (180C).
- Fill a 4-quart pot 3/4 with water and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, add pasta.
- Combine ground beef, peppers, onions and seasonings in a nine inch frying pan.
- Cook until meat is tender and brown.
- Drain excess grease from cooked meat then add 26 oz of pasta sauce and grated parmesean cheese.
- Cook under medium heat until sauce is hot.
- Drain cooked pasta.
- Rinse 4-quart pot and then place ricotta cheese in the pot.
- Heat ricotta cheese under low flame, stirring occassionally until cheese is smooth and creamy.
- Add cooked pasta to the cooked ricotta cheese and stir combination then remove flame.
- Coat the bottom of a 12x9 inch pain with 8 oz of pasta sauce.
- Top with half of the pasta and ricotta mixture.
- Next, layer the noodles with half of the meat and sauce mixture.
- Repeat last two steps then coat with remaining pasta sauce.
- Cover dish with 8oz of Mozarella cheese.
- Place in oven and bake for 30 to 45 minutes!
- Remove from oven.
- Let sit for 5 minutes then serve!
