Evedine's Banana Nut Bread

  1. Cream together sugar, shortening, eggs and flour.
  2. Add soda and buttermilk.
  3. Mix in salt and baking powder (add 1 drop lemon extract if desired) add mashed bananas and fold in nuts and vanilla.
  4. Bake about 35 minutes at 350F (180C) in greased and floured or papered pan.
