Festive Blitz Torte
- 1 3/4 c. cake flour
- 2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening (soft)
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs (unbeaten)
- 4 egg whites
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. slivered blanched almonds
- Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar.
- Place shortening in bowl; add dry ingredients and add milk and vanilla.
- Mix until flour is moistened, then beat 2 minutes at medium speed.
- Add 2 eggs and beat 1 minute longer. Pour batter into 2 (9-inch) paper-lined pans.
- Beat egg whites until foamy; add 1 cup sugar gradually, beating to form very stiff peaks.
- Spoon egg whites on batter.
- Sprinkle with almonds.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
- Cool and remove.
- Put custard in between.
