Black Forest Cake Recipe
- 1 pkt devil's food cake mix - (18 1/4 ounce)
- 3 x Large eggs
- 3/4 c. water
- 1/2 c. vegetable oil
- 1 can cherry pie filling - (21 ounce) liquid removed, reserving 1/2 c. sauce
- 1 c. heavy cream - (1/2 pint)
- 3 Tbsp. confectioners' sugar
- 1 ct chocolate frosting - (16 ounce)
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Coat two 9-inch round cake pans with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cake mix, Large eggs, water, oil, and the reserved 1/2 c. cherry sauce; mix well.
- Divide the batter proportionately between the cake pans.
- Bake for 25 to 30 min, or possibly till a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cold for 10 min, then invert onto wire racks to cold completely.
- Beat the heavy cream till stiff peaks form; beat in the confectioners' sugar.
- Place a cooled cake layer upside down on a serving platter and cover the top with half of the whipped cream; scatter the cherries over the whipped cream.
- Place the second cake layer over the first and frost the sides with the chocolate frosting.
- Frost the top with the remaining whipped cream.
- Serve, or possibly cover loosely and refrigeratetill ready to serve.
- This recipe yields 12 to 16 servings.
- Comments: For which elegant finishing touch, top the cake with chocolate curls and additional cherries or possibly chocolate-covered cherries.
