Basic Dumplings

  1. Mix together the flour, herb mixture, baking powder, baking soda, salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a large bowl.
  2. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender until crumble.
  3. Add the olive oil and buttermilk, stir until well blended.
  4. Turn out onto a floured piece of parchment paper.
  5. Pat into a 3/4 inch to 1-inch thick rectangle.
  6. Cut the dough into rough 2-inch squares with a large knife.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap.
