Classic American Pot Roast

  1. Coat beef with mixture of flour, salt, sugar, and pepper.
  2. Brown on all sides in hot oil in a large Dutch oven.
  3. When beef is turned, add onions and saute until tender.
  4. Add broth and bay leaf; bring to a boil.
  5. Cover and reduce heat to a simmer for 2 hours or until meat is almost tender.
  6. Add carrots, potaotes, celery and turnips.
  7. Cover and simmer 1 hour or until meat and veggies are tender.
  8. Slice meat and serve with veggies and sauce.
