Copycat Chips Ahoy Cookies

  1. Bring all ingredients to room temperature.
  2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  3. Mix the flour and baking soda in a bowl and set aside.
  4. Use an electric mixer to mix the two sugars and shortening.
  5. When creamy add the vanilla extract, salt and egg white.
  6. Add the flour 1/2 cup at a time, adding a tablespoon of warm water as necessary to mix the flour - don't exceed 4 tablespoons of water - this will make a firm dough.
  7. Mix in chocolate chips.
  8. As the dough gets thicker you may want to mix by hand.
  9. Roll into 2-inch balls and press down with the palm of the hand to flatten.
  10. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
