Washington Lima Bean and Pear Casserole

  1. Put beans in kettle, add water, and bring to a boil.
  2. Boil for two minutes; cover pan and let stand for one hour.
  3. Then simmer until tender; add more hot water, if necessary.
  4. Drain and season.
  5. Mix butter and brown sugar and a little syrup from pears.
  6. In a large casserole alternate layers of beans and pears.
  7. Spread each layer with the butter-sugar mixture.
  8. Top layer should be pears.
  9. Spread with remaining sugar mixture.
  10. Cover and bake in preheated 325F oven for approximately 2 hours.
