Sweet-Sour Stew
- 1/4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- dash of pepper
- 2 lb. stew meat, cubed
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 6 large carrots, cut in 3/4-inch pieces
- 3 to 4 potatoes, diced
- 1 c. water
- 1/2 c. ketchup
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1/4 c. vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp. salt (optional)

- Combine flour, salt and pepper in a plastic or paper bag.
- Add meat; shake to coat.
- In large skillet, brown meat well in hot shortening.
- Combine water, ketchup, sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and salt.
- Add onion to taste.
- Stir in browned meat.
- Cover and cook over low heat for 45 minutes, stirring once or twice.
- Add carrots and potatoes.
- Cook 45 minutes more or until meat and vegetables are tender.
- Makes 6 to 8 servings.
