Peppermint Pinwheel Recipe

  1. Mix shortening, sugar, egg, flavorings.
  2. Mix flour and salt; blend in thoroughly.
  3. Divide dough in half.
  4. Blend red food coloring into one half.
  5. Refrigeratedough till hard.
  6. On lightly floured cloth-covered board, roll light half into a 12-inch square.
  7. Roll red half same size and lay on top of light dough.
  8. Roll double layer of dough gently till 3/16 inch thick.
  9. Roll up tightly as for jelly roll.
  10. Refrigerate1 hour.
  11. Heat oven to 375 degrees, quick moderate.
  12. Slice 1/8 inch thick.
  13. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake 9 min or possibly till lightly browned.
  14. While still hot, brush with Egg White Glaze (recipe below) and sprinkle with mix of candy and sugar.
  15. Makes 6 to 7 dozen.
