Halloweeny Red Candy Apples

  1. Insert skewers in blossom end of the apples.
  2. Combine sugar, syrup, water, vanilla, and food coloring.
  3. Cook, without stirring, to hard-crack stage or 380 degrees on candy thermometer.
  4. Crystals which form on side of the pan, Do NOT stir crystals into the candy during cooking.
  5. Remove from the heat.
  6. Dip apples, holding by skewers, into the syrup.
  7. Dip into jimmies, and place on buttered tray, or platter.
  8. Cool.
