Kabayaki-Style Sweet and Spicy Grilled Chikuwa

  1. Cut the grilled chikuwa in half lengthwise.
  2. This time, I use mini-sized ones.
  3. Line up the cut chikuwa and skewer with a toothpick.
  4. By doing this, they won't roll around.
  5. Cook the chikuwa with a bit of oil in a frying pan over low heat until crispy.
  6. Turn off the heat and add the yakitori sauce and water.
  7. Turn the heat back on and simmer to coat the chikuwa.
  8. They'll burn easily, so be careful!
  9. Once cooked, season as you like with shichimi or sansho.
