Sugar and Spice Cookies

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar.
  2. Add egg; mix well.
  3. Beat in molasses.
  4. Combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  5. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets.
  6. Bake at 350F (180C) F for 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Remove to wire racks; cool.
  8. For frosting, cream the sugar, butter and lemon peel in a mixing bowl.
  9. Gradually add lemon juice, beating until frosting reaches desired spreading consistency.
  10. Frost cookies.
