Best Split Pea Soup Recipe

  1. Put the split peas and ham shank in a large pot with the water and salt.
  2. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 1 hour.
  3. (Skim off any foam and throw away it).
  4. Food processor works great for chopping vegetables.
  5. Add in the vegetables and herbs; simmer the soup for about 1 hour.
  6. Remove ham shank/bone, remove meat, chop and return it to the soup.
  7. Add in the wine and pepper and bring the soup back to a simmer.
