Mother's Green Tomato Mincemeat For Pies Recipe
- 1 c. suet
- 3 quarts. (6 lbs.) minced, unpeeled green tomatoes
- 2 quarts. (5 lbs.) pared apples, minced
- 2 lbs. seeded raisins
- 4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 c. cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp. cinnamon
- 2 teaspoon powdered cloves
- 2 tbsp. salt
- 1 orange, without seeds, cut up
- Combine in kettle.
- Simmer uncovered 2 1/2 to 3 hrs till thick.
- Stir frequently.
- Makes 5 to 6 pints.
- If preserving, process 30 min.
