Country Sage Loaves

  1. In a mixing bowl dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Stir in sugar and let stand for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the wheat germ, oil, honey, sage, salt, rosemary, nutmeg and 1 1/2 cups of flour.
  4. Beat until smooth.
  5. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  6. Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
  7. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  8. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  9. Punch dough down.
  10. Turn onto a lightly floured surface,divide in half.
  11. Shape each half into 2 oval loaves.
  12. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  13. Cover and let rise until double,about 15 minutes.
  14. With a sharp knife, make 3 shallow slashes across the top of each loaf.
  15. Bake at 400F for 13-17 minutes or until golden brown.
