Mary's nut roll
- 2 packets dry or two cakes of yeast
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 lb butter-softened
- 6 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sour cream
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 nut filling
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 cup golden raisins-optional
- 1/2 can evaporated milk
- 1 1/2 lb ground walnuts
- 1 cup evaporated
- Combine ingredients for filling.
- Use enough canned milk so that mixture can be spread over dough.
- Combine 1/2 cup canned milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, mix and heat to Luke warm.
- Add yeast.
- When double in size add 3 eggs, sour cream, salt, and softened butter.
- Gradually blend in 6 cups all purpose flour to the mixture one cup at a time.
- Mix and cover for 30 minutes
- Separate dough into 5 pieces.
- Roll out to 1/4 inch thick and spread filling over entire surface.
- Roll dough from smallest end.
- Place on parchment paper lined cookie sheet.let rise for one hour.
- Beat egg and 2 tablespoons of water and brush on top of rolls.
- Poke holes with fork across top of nut roll nan bake in a 350F oven for 350-40 minutes
- Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with a teaspoon vanilla and two tablespoons milk.
- Spread ed evenly over cooled rolls.
