Stuffed Date Drops From the '50's

  1. Stuff dates with nut halves.
  2. Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar.
  3. Beat in egg.
  4. Sift dry ingredients together.
  5. Add alternately with sour cream to creamed mixture.
  6. Stir in dates, gently.
  7. Drop onto greased cookie sheets (1 date per cookie).
  8. Bake at 400F (200C) for 8 to 10 minutes.
  9. Golden Frosting:
  10. Lightly brown butter.
  11. Remove from heat and gradually beat in sugar and vanilla.
  12. Slowly add water until of spreading consistency.
  13. Makes about 70 cookies.
