Water Fried Cornbread
- 1 cup (225 ml) white corn meal
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml). salt
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) boiling water
- 1 T melted butter
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml). baking soda
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) buttermilk
- oil for frying
- Mix corn meal with salt.
- Stir in boiling water.
- Add butter.
- Put baking soda in buttermilk.
- Stir buttermilk into meal mixture until all ingredients are mixed well.
- Heat about 3" of oil in pan or skillet.
- Drop mix by heaping tsp into hot oil.
- Fry till brown on one side, turn fry on other side.
