Sweet and Sour Ribs
- 3 pounds Baby Back Pork Ribs
- Salt, Pepper And Garlic Powder, To Taste
- 2 cups White Sugar
- 1- 1/2 cup Vinegar
- 4 Tablespoons Low Sodium Soy Sauce
- 4 Tablespoons Flour
- 1/2 cups Water
- This recipe was taken from a cookbook that I found years ago while I was nursing.
- Our family has enjoyed them many, many times, and I have tweaked over the course of time.
- You can ask the butcher to cut the ribs in half lengthwise for you so you have riblets.
- Preheat your ovens broiler.
- Cut the ribs into managable chunks and season well with garlic powder, salt and pepper.
- Pull out a roaster pan or set a cookie cooling rack on top of a rimmed cookie sheet.
- Put the ribs on the pan or rack.
- Broil the ribs under the broiler about 5 minutes per side.
- Note that they dont have to be cooked through at this point.
- In a large pot over medium heat mix together the sugar, vinegar and soy sauce.
- Whisk together the flour and water in a small bowl and add it to the pot with the other ingredients.
- Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Simmer until it starts to thicken.
- Once you have finished broiling all the ribs, cut them into individual pieces.
- Then put them into the pot with the sauce, make sure that they are all nicely coated and covered, then simmer in the sauce for 45-60 minutes.
- You want to cook them until the meat is starting to pull away from the bone.
- Serve over basmati rice with your favourite vegetable.
