Rice-Cereal Ornaments

  1. Line a large baking sheet with nonstick foil.
  2. Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat.
  3. Add marshmallows and cook, stirring, until melted and combined.
  4. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla extract and rice cereal.
  5. Using wet hands, form 12 tightly packed balls, about 2 inches each.
  6. Working quickly, sprinkle with sanding sugar or sprinkles.
  7. Transfer to prepared pan.
  8. In a small microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup, melt white chocolate chips according to package directions.
  9. Use the chocolate to adhere gold-wrapped Rolo candies to the top of the rice balls.
  10. Let stand, uncovered, until set, 2 to 3 hours.
  11. Store in an airtight container between layers of nonstick foil for up to 3 days.
