Miss Lizzie's Pound Cake

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat one cup butter and shortening at medium speed with an electric mixer; gradually add 3 cups sugar and salt.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition; set aside.
  3. Combine milk and flavoring; add to butter mixture alternately with flour.
  4. Spread batter in a greased and floured 10" tube pan.
  5. Bake at 325 for one hour or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  6. In a saucepan, combine all frosting ingredients except vanilla.
  7. Cook over medium heat 15 minutes, stirring constantly.
  8. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
  9. Immediately spread over cooled cake.
