Kringla
- 4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 1 egg
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
- 1 c. sour cream
- 1 c. sugar
- Mix dry ingredients in large bowl.
- Work in Crisco with fingers until well blended.
- In another bowl, beat egg, buttermilk, sour cream and sugar.
- Stir into dry ingredients until well blended (it will be sticky!).
- Scrape out on well floured board.
- Sprinkle with flour and gently knead in more flour, if needed, so it can be easily handled.
- The less flour, more tender Kringla.
- Cut off a chunk and roll into a "pencil" 6-inches long.
- Form into an 8 shape.
- Bake on greased baking sheet (on bottom shelf) in 500u0b0 preheated oven, until bottom is light golden brown.
- Change to top shelf and broil them until touched with color.
- Watch carefully (take the phone off the hook!).
- The hotter the oven, the quicker it becomes a tender Kringla.
