Oriental Pudding

  1. Cut the dates into small pieces and combine them with the sugar and honey.
  2. Add the water and bring to a boil.
  3. Lower the heat and simmer gently.
  4. Melt the butter in a heavy skillet and add the Cream of Rice.
  5. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the Cream of Rice is a golden brown.
  6. Add the date mixture and the spices and mix thoroughly.
  7. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  8. This will take about 5 minutes.
  9. Stir in the coconut and remove from the stove.
  10. Spoon into a large bowl or individual dishes and serve warm or cool with whipped cream.
