Grandma's Rye Bread

  1. Combine the sugar, shortening, salt, molasses with the 2 cups of boiling water set aside to cool.
  2. In separate bowl put yeast and 1/2 cup warm water.
  3. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  4. combine cooled ingredients and yeast.
  5. Add Rye flour and white flour.
  6. Knead for 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Let rise for up to 1 1/2 hours or until doubled.
  8. Punch down and roll into 2 loafs.
  9. Let rise for 30 to 45 minutes.
  10. Bake at 350 for 60 to 70 minutes.
