Hina Doll Sushi for Hinamatsuri Girls' Day
- 1 one small bowlful Plain cooked rice
- 1 tbsp Sushi vinegar
- 1 tsp Sesame seeds
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 tbsp Sugar
- 1 pinch Salt
- 1 tsp Katakuriko
- 1 leaf Spinach
- 1 Cucumber, carrot, nori seaweed
- 4 seeds Black sesame seeds (for the eyes)
- 2 Quail eggs (for the heads)
- Hard boil the quail eggs and peel the shells.
- Prepare the sushi rice.
- Put the cooked rice in a bowl, pour over the sushi vinegar and mix in gently.
- Mix in the sesame seeds.
- Make 2 triangular rice balls.
- Crack eggs into a bowl and beat with chopsticks.
- Add the sugar, salt and katakuriko with water (mixed with the same quantity) and mix well.
- Grease a frying pan with a little oil and pour 1/2 of the egg mixture.
- Spread the egg mixture by moving the frying pan.
- When the edge of the omelet starts to dry, flip over.
- Cook quickly and remove from the frying pan.
- Pour in the remaining egg mixture, add blanched and chopped spinach, and cook.
- Cut the cucumber in half lengthwise and peel a thin slice with a peeler.
- Make a crown and scepter (the white ball is the quail egg, which will be the doll head).
- Cut the carrot in half lengthwise and peel a thin slice with a peeler.
- Make a fan and blanch (not for too long, otherwise it won't hold shape).
- Make an emperor hina doll with a thin omelet with spinach.
- Fold 1/3 of the omelet and put the rice ball in the centre.
- Wrap with a cucumber slice.
- Wrap the rice balls with the omelets.
- Secure with a toothpick.
- Use a toothpick and fix a quail egg on top of the rice ball.
- Make a doll's hair with nori seaweed and crown with a cucumber piece (stick to the head with a toothpick).
- Make eyes with the black sesame seeds.
- Put a scepter to the groom and it's done.
- Make the empress hina doll.
- Arrange the two dolls and they're done.
