Beef & Broccoli
- 1 lb lean beef (sirloin is good)
- 12 lb broccoli
- 3 tablespoons oil
- 34 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 egg
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 12 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 12 tablespoons rice wine
- 2 tablespoons peanut oil
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 12 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- Cut the beef into very thin slices.
- In a bowl, mix together the egg, garlic, salt, ginger, soy sauce, and wine; marinate beef in mixture for 20-30 minutes at room temperature.
- Add oil to marinade, mix thoroughly, and marinate for another 30 minutes.
- Mix the first 2 tsp of cornstarch with the five-spice powder, and add the meat to this mixture.
- Cut the broccoli into small sprigs.
- Mix the remaining cornstarch into the water and soy sauce.
- Heat the oil& the sesame oil in a frying pan and saute the beef for about two minutes.
- Add the broccoli and cook for five minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add the cornstarch mixture to the pan, mix well and cook until thick.
- Serve immediately.
