Grandma's Dreamy Cake

  1. Prepare and bake cake mix as directed on package in two 8- or 9-inch round layers.
  2. Run knife or metal spatula around sides of pans to loosen cake layers.
  3. Cool 15 minutes.
  4. Stir boiling water into dry gelatin mix at least 2 minute until completely dissolved.
  5. Add cold water.
  6. Pierce cake layers with large fork at 1/2-inch intervals.
  7. Carefully pour half of the gelatin mixture over each cake layer.
  8. Refrigerate at least 3 hours.
  9. Mix sour cream and powdered sugar; gently stir in whipped topping.
  10. Dip one cake pan in warm water 10 sec.
  11. ; unmold onto serving plate.
  12. Spread with 1 cup of the whipped topping mixture.
  13. Reserve a few cherries for garnish.
  14. Chop remaining cherries; sprinkle over cake.
  15. Unmold second cake layer; carefully place on first cake layer.
  16. Frost top and sides of cake with remaining whipped topping mixture.
  17. Drizzle with melted chocolate.
  18. Garnish with reserved cherries.
