7 Mile Red Ale Recipe

  1. Preparation Time: 4:00 Steep crystal malt for 30 min in 150 degree water.
  2. Sparge into brew pot of warm water and add in malt extract.
  3. Bring to boil and add in 1 oz Fuggles.
  4. 20 min later add in another oz.
  5. At the 40 minute mark, toss in the final half oz of fuggles.
  6. (Almost threw in a full oz, but after tasting wort, decided against it-plenty bitter at this point.)
  7. Turn off heat and add in Cascades.
  8. Stirred down the hops slowly and let sit for about 10 min.
  9. Strain all into fermenter containing ice water.
  10. Cooled.
  11. Pitched yeast.
  12. Single stage ferment.
  13. Keg, and age a few days.
  14. I came up with the name when helping install a phone system and after the job was done, I had pulled over seven miles of phone line...ugh!
  15. It's a good ale, but not the "Great Ale"
  16. which I'm still looking for...maybe it's in the fermenter now Original Gravity: 1.044
  17. Final Gravity: 1.010 Primary Ferment: 10 days
