New French Dip

  1. Heat vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Cut whole onion into thin strands and add to vegetable oil.
  3. Cook onions, stirring and pulling apart occasionally until golden Brown and soft.
  4. Combine 1cup water with 1 can beef consomme over medium heat.
  5. Shred roast beef, if needed.
  6. Add roast beef to beef consomme and keep over medium heat.
  7. Cut French bread at an angle to make longer sandwiches.
  8. Cut 12 half inch thick slices, or thicker if you would like.
  9. Butter one side of each piece of bread and toast on a griddle.
  10. Remove roast beef from consomme and place on half the French bread slices.
  11. Place sauteed onions on top of roast beef.
  12. Break provolone cheese in half and place 4 halves total on top of onions.
  13. Finish it off by closing up the sandwich and use remaining consomme for dipping.
