Nectarine Blitz Torte

  1. Cream together the shortening and powdered sugar. Beat in egg yolks one at a time.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
  4. Spread in 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
  5. Beat egg whites until foamy.
  6. Add 1 cup of sugar a little at a time and continue beating until stiff.
  7. Spread over cake batter.
  8. Sprinkle each layer with 1 tablespoon each of sugar and almonds.
  9. Bake at 325u0b0 for 30 minutes.
  10. Dice 2 cups of nectarines and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of sugar.
  11. Place a layer of cake on serving platter, meringue side down, then nectarines and whipped cream; repeat. Serve.
