Potato Gratin with Sage and Onions

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.
  2. Melt butter in heavy large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add onions, garlic, and 2 tablespoons sage; saute 5 minutes.
  4. Add potatoes and 1 1/2 cups water.
  5. Bring to boil.
  6. Boil until water is completely absorbed, about 8 minutes.
  7. Add cream, salt, and pepper; bring to boil.
  8. Transfer skillet to oven and bake until potatoes are tender and top is golden, about 40 minutes.
  9. Sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon sage.
  10. Serve immediately.
