Walnut Nectarine Tarte

  1. In a big bowl combine flour, salt and sugar.
  2. Rub in butter using your fingers until coarse crumbs form.
  3. Add the applesauce and knead into a soft, but not sticky dough.
  4. Form a ball and wrap into cling film.
  5. Chill for 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a round of approximately 10 inches.
  7. Pat into a 20 cm/8 inch spring-form pan.
  8. In a second bowl combine jam and nectarine slices (for easier mixing heat jam in microwave).
  9. Pour this into the pie shell.
  10. If youd like a more sophisticated presentation arrange nectarine slices in concentric circles on the dough, slightly overlapping.
  11. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts and bake in the pre-heated oven at 200C/400F for 30-35 minutes.
  12. Serve with whipped cream or ice-cream if you like.
