Cream Pie (Variety of Flavors)

  1. Thaw pie shell and bake according to box directions.
  2. Combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a medium microwaveable bowl and mix well.
  3. Some ingredients may not blend well until during/after heating.
  4. Microwave for 5 minutes or until mixture almost boils over.
  5. Be careful if using a bowl that gets hot.
  6. Also, don't walk away from it or, rest assured, you'll be cleaning the microwave too :)
  7. Stir gently to blend ingredients (some tend to separate).
  8. Microwave for another 5 minutes Again...don't walk away from it.
  9. Add margarine and vanilla (to taste) and stir gently to blend (agitating too much after thickening may cause it not to set as well).
  10. Pour into pie shell.
  11. Let pie rest until it is room temperature.
  12. Place in the refrigerator until filling has set.
  13. Top with Cool Whip and serve.
  14. Banana Variation: Use 1/4 c. granulated sugar and 1/4 c. brown sugar instead of the sugar amount indicated in the base recipe.
  15. Slice banana(s) and line the baked pie shell with them, pouring pie filling on top.
  16. Butterscotch Variation: Use 1/2 c. granulated sugar and 1/2 c. brown sugar instead of the sugar amount indicated in the base recipe.
  17. Chocolate Variation: Use 2/3 c. granulated sugar and 3 tablespoons cocoa powder instead of the sugar amount indicated in the base recipe.
  18. Lemon Variation: Use juice from 1/2 of a lemon and 1 c. granulated sugar, instead of the sugar amount indicated in the base recipe.
