Apple Dumplings

  1. Make syrup of sugar, water, nutmeg, cinnamon and margarine. Cook over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes after coming to a boil; set aside.
  2. Pare and core apples.
  3. Sift flour, salt and baking powder.
  4. Cut in shortening; mix, add milk and blend.
  5. Divide dough into 6 balls.
  6. Roll each ball into a 5 to 6-inch square.
  7. Arrange 1 sliced apple on each square.
  8. Sprinkle generously with additional sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  9. Dot each with margarine.
  10. Fold corners to center and pinch together.
  11. Place in 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Pour syrup over dumplings.
  12. Bake, serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
  13. Bake at 375u0b0 for 35 minutes.
