Apple Dumplings
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 c. water
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 c. margarine
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 c. Crisco
- 1/2 c. milk

- Make syrup of sugar, water, nutmeg, cinnamon and margarine. Cook over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes after coming to a boil; set aside.
- Pare and core apples.
- Sift flour, salt and baking powder.
- Cut in shortening; mix, add milk and blend.
- Divide dough into 6 balls.
- Roll each ball into a 5 to 6-inch square.
- Arrange 1 sliced apple on each square.
- Sprinkle generously with additional sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Dot each with margarine.
- Fold corners to center and pinch together.
- Place in 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Pour syrup over dumplings.
- Bake, serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 35 minutes.
