County Fair Style Kettle Corn
- 1/4 cups Vegetable Oil
- 1/2 cups Popcorn Kernels
- 13 cups Sugar
- 3/4 teaspoons Salt
- Add 3 kernels of corn and oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- After those kernels pop, add the rest of the kernels and sugar to the hot oil and give it a quick stir.
- Cover the pot with a lid.
- Once popcorn starts popping, pick it up and give it a quick shake every few seconds until popping slows down, between 3-4 minutes.
- Remove immediately from heat and pour into a large bowl.
- Sprinkle with salt and serve immediately.
- Do not make the mistake of removing the pot from the heat without transferring to a bowl.
- Due to the high heat of the pot, if you dont transfer the popcorn, it will caramelize and perhaps burn.
- Also, do not attempt to make a batch of this in a Dutch oven.
- Note: if you would like the balloon-type of popcorn served at the county fair, use mushroom kernels which can be found online.
