Holland Spice Cookies
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup lard
- 2 cups brown sugar firmly packed
- 1/2 cup sour cream dairy
- 4 1/2 cups flour, all-purpose sifted
- 3 teaspoons cinnamon ground
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg ground
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves ground
- 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
- Cream together butter, lard, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in sour cream.
- Sift together flour, cinnamon, salt, baking soda, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, mixing well with a spoon.
- Stir in walnuts.
- Cover and chill 1 hour in refrigerator.
- Shape dough into four 6 inch rolls.
- Chill in refrigerator overnight.
- Cut rolls into 1/4 inch slices.
- Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
- Bake in 350F (180C) F oven 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from baking sheets; cool on racks.
