Hybrid Baked Beans
- 1 (4 lb) bag white pea beans
- 20 cups water
- 4 onions
- 1 green pepper
- 1 red pepper
- 2 cups ketchup
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 4 teaspoons cider vinegar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons prepared brown mustard
- 1 ham steak, cut up
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons basil
- 1 tablespoon salt (I like sea salt)
- Place beans and water in very large pot or several pots.
- Bring to boil, boil 10 minutes.
- Reduce heat and simmer 1.5 hours till tender.
- Drain (saving liquid) and rinse.
- Combine cooked beans and all other ingredients in bean pot (I had to use two pots) and bake covered in 300 degree oven for 2.5 hours adding in liquid as needed.
