The Whistle Stop Cafe's Blfgt Sammy/Sandwiches

  1. Fry the bacon until just browned and drain.
  2. Strain and save the drippings.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt and pepper, and milk; stir to combine.
  4. The consistency should be like pancake batter.
  5. Add the oil to the drippings and heat.
  6. Dip each slice of tomato in the batter, letting the excess drip off.
  7. Fry the tomatoes until browned, being careful not to burn them.
  8. Drain well.
  9. Stir together the chili sauce and mayonnaise.
  10. To assemble, spread on the mayo, layer the bacon, tomato and lettuce.
