Gwyneth Gooden's Easter Buns
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon anise
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 egg
- 1 large bottle Guinness Stout
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup seedless raisins
- 1 cup candied fruit peel, optional
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan.
- Mix the melted butter and the honey together.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients.
- In another bowl, combine the egg, Guinness Stout and vanilla.
- Pour the egg mixture into the center of the dry ingredients, and mix well, while adding half of the honey and butter mix.
- Add the raisins and mix until incorporated.
- Pinch off pieces of the dough approximately the size of lemons and roll into smooth balls.
- Evenly space the buns in the greased baking pan, and place in the oven for 1 hour.
- Remove from the oven, and brush with the remaining honey butter mixture.
- Cool and serve.
