Creamy Onion Dip

  1. In a deep, medium skillet, melt the butter.
  2. Add the onions, cover and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Uncover and cook, stirring frequently, until very tender and caramelized, about 30 minutes.
  4. Add a few tablespoons of water to the skillet as necessary to prevent scorching.
  5. Transfer the onions to a bowl and let cool.
  6. Stir in the sour cream, chives, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder and pepper and season with salt.
  7. Serve with potato chips, carrots and breadsticks.
